Jackson County donation drop-off sites for Hurricane Sandy victims

Cities within Jackson County are teaming up to collect, package and deliver supplies to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

According to Jackson County Public Information Officer Nicole Grundel, several drop off sites are located through the Jackson County.

All the items dropped off will be consolidated and packaged, then delivered to staging areas in Monmouth County, NJ or Bergen County, NJ.

Officials with the Jackson County Emergency Management Office and the Pascagoula Police Department are on the ground in those communities. They are working alongside local emergency management offices.

They'll be collecting donations from now until Friday, November 16.

Items that will be accepted include: cleaning products, rubber gloves and boots, mops, shovels, industrial strength trash bags, and other non-perishables such as canned food, baby supplies, paper products, clean blankets and linens, jackets, can openers, NEW socks and under ware, new gas cans, and personal hygiene items. Other clothing items will not be collected unless otherwise noted.

  • Jackson County: To Monmouth County
    • Fontainebleau Fire Department - 3901 Highway 57 South
      Every day from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • Vancleave Fire Department - 5117 Ballpark Road
      Every day from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

 

  • Ocean Springs: To Monmouth County
    • Fire Station by WalMart - 3820 Bienville Boulevard
      Every day 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • Churches can also call 228-875-6722 to coordinate a pick up on the 19th

 

  • Moss Point: To Monmouth County
    • Old City Hall - 4400 Denny Ave.
      Nov. 12 – 15 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and
      Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • Gautier: To Monmouth County
    • Gautier Central Fire Department – 2502 College Circle
      Every day from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

 

  • Pascagoula: To Bergen County

Pascagoula sites (listed below) will be collecting items for Bergen County, NJ until Nov. 12.  In addition to the items listed above Pascagoula sites are accepting clothing.

  • All Fire Departments in Pascagoula – 24 hours/day
  • Central Fire Station – 1707 Jackson Ave.
  • Lake Ave. Fire Station – 1411 Lake Ave.
  • Bayou Casotte Fire Station – 3608 Scovel
  • Parks & Recreation Department – Pascagoula Street
    Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

F&H Trucking and Chevron Refinery of Pascagoula are assisting with the delivery, and Ingalls Shipbuilding will be helping with the effort as well.  Other businesses and organizations who would like to participate should call Supervisor John McKay’s office at 228-769-3260.

Churches that wish to coordinate a specific drop off time can contact Barbara Dumas-Marshall at 228-217-2754 or 228-938-2850. Churches in Ocean Springs can also call Anne Pitre at 228-875-6722 to coordinate a pick up on Nov. 19.
